Annual leave in Singapore (holiday / vacation)

Under the Employment Act, employees are entitled to paid annual leave if they have worked for their employer for at least 3 months. Employees can take a minimum of 7 days paid annual leave during their first year of employment, and will receive 1 extra day for each additional year of service with their employer up to a maximum of 14 days.

Maternity leave in Singapore

Female employees who are covered by the Employment Act are entitled to 12 weeks of maternity leave.

Paternity leave in Singapore

Fathers are entitled to 2 weeks of paid paternity leave if they are legally married to the mother at the time of the child’s birth or within 12 months of the child’s birth. The child must also be a Singaporean citizen.

Sick leave in Singapore

The Employment Act provides for sick leave benefits for employees who have worked for their employer for at least 3 months.

The number of days of paid sick leave an employee is entitled to will depend on their length of service, as follows:

From 3 months of service15 days of paid hospitalization leave, including 5 days of outpatient sick leave.
From 4 months of service 30 days of paid hospitalization leave, including 8 days of outpatient sick leave.
From 5 months of service45 days of paid hospitalization leave, including 11 days of outpatient sick leave.
From 6 months of service  60 days of paid hospitalization leave, including 14 days of outpatient sick leave.

Bereavement and compassionate leave in Singapore

There is no legal requirement to provide compassionate leave for employees in Singapore, it is, therefore, up to the company to decide whether, and for how long, to offer this entitlement. While not mandatory, it is standard practice to give 3 days of compassionate leave to employees in Singapore.

It is common practice in Singapore, to give around 14 to 20 days of paid time off to employees. This is well above the minimum 7 days that are required under the Employment Act.
