Once a member is covered, they can go anywhere in the world on long or short trips, with the exception of a 30-day limit in the United States, Singapore, and Hong Kong, for emergency non-elective cover only. Remote Health will cover a member up to 30 days per trip, 120 days per year during their plan period. If an employee needs full coverage for travel to the US, Singapore, and Hong Kong, they may purchase the add-on, which includes 6 months travel in the US and a full year in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Note that residents of Singapore and Hong Kong must purchase an add-on to be covered in their home countries.

Yes, medical history is disregarded by Remote Health as long as the condition and treatment are included in the overall policy.

There is no mandatory pre-existing conditions check before the policy begins, although you may be asked about your general medical history.

Remote Health is offered as one of 3 plans, each with different coverage levels. You can choose among Standard, Premium or Premium Plus when you sign up.

Premium offers all the base coverage in the Standard plan as well as:

Dental

Vision

Routine checkups & vaccines

No co-insurance for outpatient (i.e. non-hospital visits)

Premium Plus offers the above in addition to maternity coverage, up to US$7,500 with a 20% co-insurance.

You can also add US/HK/SG coverage to any of the above plans.

Yes, Remote Health can be useful as a top-up or supplementary coverage, no matter what sort of health system your country of residence has.

(i) In countries with public systems (for example: the UK, Norway, Germany)

Visit any private hospital for the best and quickest service. Skipping lines means getting healthy faster and returning to work quicker.

If your hospital treatment is covered by your public healthcare system, you receive a US$150 cash bonus per night you spend in a public hospital in your home country.

Access treatments that are typically not provided by standard public healthcare, for example the latest available cancer treatment regimens.

Use this coverage wherever you live, move, or work. If you are a nomad or traveling often, you wouldn’t need another insurance to cover your health (although it won’t cover trip delays or interruptions).

(ii) In countries without public systems (for example: Vietnam)

You can get coverage at the best hospitals in your country of residence or nearly any other country in the world. Without it you would pay out of pocket for any medical care.

Yes. To add a newborn as an Insurance Dependent on your Remote Health plan, we will need to receive a copy of the newborn’s birth certificate within the first 90 days of birth.

After the deadline for adding a newborn passes, you may still attempt to add your child by submitting an application for dependent addition.

Yes, there are two ways to add dependents or family members to your insurance plan.

(1) Add your dependent/family member during your initial application process

OR

(2) As life changes occur (marriage, childbirth, or adoption), submit an application for dependent addition. Your application will be quickly processed.

The repatriation benefit covers a return ticket for you and one companion to the place from which you were evacuated for emergency medical treatment. In unfortunate cases of death, remains can also be repatriated using Remote Health.

Treatment & Claims

You can seek treatment at any doctor or hospital in the world and be covered by Remote Health, as long as you are seeking treatment for an eligible medical condition covered in your plan.

Horizons will pay for the employee on your behalf and then invoice you monthly.

Getting covered is a combination of direct billing and reimbursement.
Most of the time direct billing is possible for services greater than US$250, but in the cases where direct billing is not possible, there is a claim & reimbursement process. Reimbursement can be expected within 7 business days of the claim being made.

When a claim has been filed, once all documents are received reimbursement will take place within 7 business days, usually less.

Costs of the Plan

Pricing is simple, depending only on the age of the person and type of plan selected (Standard, Premium or Premium Plus). There is an additional charge for extra US/HK/SG coverage.

For many employees (aged 18-39), the cost for the Standard plan is $92 per month, $144 for the Premium plan, and $155 for Premium Plus (all in US dollars).

For employees aged 40-49, the monthly prices are $120, $190, and $255, respectively.

No, the premiums are set at a fixed rate based on age range.

Your exact price will depend on several factors, including: employee age, plan tier, and if you choose to add the US/HK/SG add-on. You can see a pricing table above which will allow you to estimate costs based on your employees’ situations.

It is possible for the employee to pay for their own Remote Health international health insurance policy.

In other cases, an employer might be able to offer only the Standard plan, but an employee may require the Premium plan. In such cases, it is possible for the employee to pay the difference between the plans out of their own pocket.

In cases where our clients may want to explore options similar to this, we encourage you to discuss with us directly and early in the project to confirm if your preferences are both compliant according to local regulations, and standard practice according to the culture in which you are hiring. Our local experts will be able to help guide your decision so you can maintain a balance of costs and employee value proposition.

Other

Yes, the plan can be used for visa requirements for many countries based on their specific requirements around international health insurance. Please note requirements vary by country and Remote Health might not always meet the requirements. Contact SafetyWing’s customer care team at support@safetywing.com for more information.
