What are the standard working hours in Thailand?

The standard working hours in Thailand is a maximum of 8 hours per day, and no more than 48 hours per week for an employee on a open-ended employment contract.

What are the standard working days in Thailand?

The standard workdays in Thailand are between Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 6:00pm. It is not uncommon though for employees to work as late as 9pm most days. Employees are entitled to one hour per 5 hours worked as a daily rest period.

How many hours can you work per week in Thailand?

Thai labour law stipulates that the maximum amount an hours an employee can work on a standard contract is 48 hours a week. An exception to this maximum is for roles that are deemed as dangerous work which has a lowered limit of 42 hours a week maximum working time.

How many hours is part-time work in Thailand?

Part time work in Thailand is considered any number of hours worked consistent that is less that the standard work week of 48 hours a week.

How many hours is overtime in Thailand?

Overtime hours is capped at a maximum of 36 hours a week on top of the standard 48 hours a week. Overtime must be compensated at a higher rate than the employee’s standard salary. The rates for compensation of overtime are as follows.

  • 150% of salary for any hours taken in overtime in the standard working week
  • 200% of the salary if an employee works on their designated rest day in a week
  • 300% of the salary if an employee works on a public holiday

Some employees that hold specific roles or work in certain industries may not be entitled to overtime compensation if taking on extra hours.

Is it illegal to work on the weekend in Thailand?

It is not illegal to work on the weekend in Thailand. Employees are entitled to one day off per week if they work standard work week.

Does Thailand have a four-day work?

Thailand has not mandated any policy regarding a 4-day work week. However, Thailand has stipulated that they could be open to the idea in the future.
