What is a Cameroon EOR?

An Employer of Record is a specialist company that provides HR services to businesses, including payroll, benefits, compliance, and HR administration. A Cameroon EOR is an organization that provides these HR services to businesses that are looking to hire employees in Cameroon. The organization could be a domestic EOR, only supporting companies based in Cameroon and only hiring and processing payroll in Cameroon. Or they could be a Global EOR, hiring employees all over Africa and the world, including Cameroon.

What attracts global companies to hiring in Cameroon? Cameroon is an emerging middle-income economy, and historically was one of the wealthiest countries in Africa. Its largest city, Douala, is the financial and banking capital of the region, and it has a diverse economy focused on primary industries and natural resources: Cameroon is a significant oil producer, and one of the largest producers of taro (3rd in the world), plantains (3rd in the world) and cocoa (5th in the world).

EORs support international companies hiring a Cameroon team, taking over the HR, payroll and employment compliance tasks and responsibilities that apply to Cameroon employment. This helps international companies focus on expanding into a new African market, or simply getting the best out of their workforce in Cameroon.

What are the benefits of a Cameroon EOR?

Benefits of engaging a EOR in Cameroon include:

Cost savings — by engaging a EOR for your HR and payroll you don’t need as many HR and payroll staff. You also eliminate the need to set up a local Cameroon entity/subsidiary.

Improved compliance — when you hire Cameroon legal and employment experts, you ensure compliance and avoid the risk of penalties and fines.

Local expertise — a Cameroon EOR has the in-depth local market and compliance knowledge that most international companies lack.

Enhanced flexibility —EORs provide HR, payroll and compliance services on an ‘a la carte‘ and as-needed basis. For example, if the business needs support with Cameroon visas, a EOR may be able to help with that as well.

Better employee benefits — EORs have existing relationships with benefit providers (e.g., health insurance companies and brokers), as well as a size which helps them negotiate better benefit rates than most of their clients could individually.

It is worth noting that the specific benefits of a Cameroon EOR will depend on the services that that EOR offers as well the needs of that particular client: For example, some Cameroon EORs will provide assistance with visa sponsorship, but not all.

How does a Cameroon EOR help businesses hire employees?

EORs in Cameroon support international businesses in a number of ways. This includes;

Advising companies on local labor laws and regulations: This is particularly true of international businesses who are likely unfamiliar with Cameroon tax and employment laws.

Assisting with recruitment: Many top EORs offer recruitment support, including advertising jobs, reviewing applications and carrying out initial interviews.

Handling onboarding and orientation: Cameroon EORs support companies in Cameroon by setting up payroll, and providing new hires with all the necessary information to begin work.

Administering employee benefits: EORs can design and implement employee benefit plans, including health and disability insurance and pension plans, as well as administering those benefits on behalf of client companies.

Managing payroll and tax withholding: Cameroon EORs handle the calculation and issuing of salaries and wages, the withholding of taxes, and making required tax payments on behalf of the business.
