Senior Regulatory Specialist
Andrew (Drew) joined the Horizons team as a Senior Regulatory Specialist in 2020. For the past seven years, he has been a trusted advisor to C-Suite executives and government ministers on international compliance and regulatory issues.
Drew hails from New Zealand, but has lived and worked in the United States, Argentina, Australia and Europe. In addition to English, he speaks German and Spanish.
Education
Drew studied Law and Philosophy in New Zealand [2003-2009,] and holds Bachelor of Arts [1:1], Bachelor of Laws and Master of Arts (with Distinction) degrees from the University of Otago.
He also holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Sydney [2010-2014] and a Post Graduate Certificate in Public Policy from Victoria University of Wellington [2015].
In 2009 Drew was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.
Experience
Drew’s professional career regulatory and compliance began as a University instructor and researcher in New Zealand, Australia and the United States (2008-2014) where he taught in a range of areas including professional ethics and health regulation, and published academic research on anti-corruption legislation and medical ethics committees.
From 2014-2017 Drew worked for the New Zealand Government as an advisor to the Ministers of Education and Tertiary Education. This included advising on the regulation of student fees, as well as lending and asset sales.
Since 2017 Drew has worked as a regulatory specialist and legal consultant for various global clients in the private sector. This has included drafting litigation materials and advising clients in the Financial Services, Electricity and Global Expansion industries.
Industry Recognition
Prior to joining Horizons, Drew worked with boutique Australian regulatory technology firm, Compliance Quarter which was recognized with a ‘Business of Tomorrow’ award by Westpac in 2018.
Drew blogs regularly about regulatory, legal and compliance issues and has been featured in a range of leading industry websites including LexBlog, WattClarity, and Smart Strata.
