Cambodia Work Visas & Work Permits

Learn how to apply for Cambodia work visas, how to hire foreign employees in the country, and more

If your business is planning to expand into the Southeast Asian nation of Cambodia, you will likely be aiming to make up at least part of your workforce with foreign workers. To bring foreign workers to Cambodia, every employee will need Cambodia work visas.

The Cambodian immigration and visa process can be hard to navigate, with a different language, bureaucratic inefficiencies, complex requirements, and various other factors all causing possible delays for anyone who fails to research and prepare sufficiently. Cambodia does have a reputation for being relaxed about working visas and permits, and it is common for people to work without them. However, we recommend following the law to avoid issues.

At Horizons, our global expansion team provides a wide selection of Cambodia work visa services, immigration support, and outsourcing solutions to provide your company with everything needed to start trading and expand in Cambodia with the help of the best global talent.

Basic requirements for Cambodia work visas and other documents

Employers are responsible for the majority of the application process. As an employer, you will need to provide various documents, including:

  • Certificate of your business’ incorporation
  • Proof that no more than 10% of employees are foreign
  • Business name and address
  • Application forms and fees

The employees themselves will also need to supply various documents as part of the process, including:

  • A passport
  • Proof of work experience/qualifications if relevant
  • Medical check
  • Details of employment in Cambodia

Types of Cambodia work visas

Anybody coming to Cambodia to work will generally need to obtain an E-class visa, valid for one month, along with a work permit and an employment card. There are various sub-category extensions of the E-class visa, but the most suitable for foreign employees is the EB visa.

How to get Cambodia work visas and work permits

The initial visa application can be completed either via the employee’s local Cambodian embassy/consulate, or on arrival at Phnom Penh airport,

After the work visa has been issued, you can begin the work permit application. Work permits are valid for up to one year (temporary permits) or indefinitely (permanent permits).

Further considerations

Temporary work permits can be renewed, so it is not necessary to get a permanent permit even if your employee is planning to stay for longer than one year.
